Authors-in-Schools Program

Wondermore’s Authors-in-Schools program brings authors and illustrators directly into classrooms across Boston for presentations and interactive discussions. The goal of each author/illustrator visit is to inspire young readers and writers. By working closely with teachers and librarians to connect the work of the author or illustrator to classroom studies, Wondermore author visits enhance school curriculum. At the same time, we emphasize inclusion and diversity in the selection of our authors so students can see themselves reflected in the pages of the authors’ books.

How Does the Wondermore Authors-in-Schools Program Work?

The primary focus of our mission is working with Title 1 schools in and around Boston. Wondermore covers the majority of the costs for author honoraria, books, travel, and accommodation. In return, a modest contribution is required from the school to secure engagement.

AUTHORS-IN-SCHOOLS Program Steps

1. Wondermore works with classroom teachers and librarians to identify authors or illustrators to visit with specific grade levels

2. Wondermore donates copies of the author’s book(s) to each school well ahead of an author visit and works with teachers and/or library staff to familiarize students with the books.

3. Wondermore donates one copy of the author’s book to each student in the program to take home and keep.

4. Wondermore manages all of the logistics of each author visit and accompanies the author or illustrator on the day of the visit.
